Our Infinitybox system can be used to control the electrical system in practically any vehicle. A lot of our customers use our systems to wire race cars for drag racing, rally racing, circle-track racing, baja and road racing. Our Express kits are simple and powerful wiring systems for all kinds of racing applications. A lot of our customers want simple ignition and starter switches. This is a simple single-pole, double throw toggle switch. It is in an OFF-ON-(ON) configuration. That means that it latches on one side, latches in the middle position and is momentary on the other side. When you release the toggle on the second side, it springs back to the center position. It comes with a red protective cover, which is very useful in racing applications.
To start the engine, you lift the cover. Then move the switch from the off position, through the middle run position to the start position. When it is in this position, the starter will crank. After the engine starts, you release the switch. It springs back to the middle run position. To shut off the engine, you flip the switch to the off position. Alternately, you can flip down the switch cover which will turn off the engine.
Wiring this type of switch to an Infinitybox MASTERCELL or an IOX is very easy. First, check your configuration sheet to get the right colors for the inputs for the ignition and starter. This link will get you more information on reading a configuration sheet. Then you need to connect these wires to the terminals on the switch. This picture shows you how to do this.
You also need a ground wire for the switch. You can connect this to a well grounded point on your chassis or you can use one of the black wires in the MASTERCELL input harness. You also must connect a diode between the inputs for the ignition and starter. The recommended diode is a 1N4001. The direction of this diode is very important. This will not work correctly if the diode is installed backwards. This link will take you to a source for this diode.
This schematic will work for either 10 and 20-Circuit Kits using a MASTERCELL or our Express Racing Kits using our IOX Input/Output Expander Modules.
